It isn’t until an intruder leaves behind chilling hints of things to come that she realizes the full extent of the madness to follow. Nothing can prepare her for the outcome as she journeys into the realm of a killer’s world—a killer who is on the loose and living in Greene County.
To complicate matters, Savannah Kelley, an author living in Dogwood Valley believes her recently published mystery novel is being used by the killer as a manual for murder. The similarities are unmistakable, but before she has a chance to report her suspicions to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, her car is found abandoned at the entrance to her driveway, the door standing wide open, blood on the ground next to it. Danger is eminent; death—a strong possibility.

Author Ann Mullen has written a fairly complex and challenging mystery. Jesse Watson is the driving personality of a large and close family. A family member dies fighting a fire at another member's home. What follows are multiple twists and turns which at times are a bit confusing, but everything holds together to the ending. This is #5 of the books and while it is a standalone the characters are obviously in the previous books. I plan to go back and read them and would suggest that you start with #1 if you have not read any of them.Product details

What a trip. I discovered Ann Mullen's series of Jessie's adventures and can't stop reading them...her books are like salted peanuts. You can't just read one. I sometimes wonder where her imagination is going next as one crisis after another appears to threaten someone within the inner circle of families which ended up tied together. BRAVO I gladly give it 5 stars...as I do to every book in this series.
You can never go wrong with Ann Mullen! No matter the story, it's never a waste of time. Full of fun mystery, and great characters! The author can't crank them out fast enough for me!
One of a series that kept me interested all the way through once i read book 2 I had to keep reading. I've now read all but books 1 and 5 seems like I should read these but I'm not going to maybe later as they weren't available at the time. Great reading for all.
AM continues to entertain with the Virginia Mountain Mysteries and this novel has maintained a level excitement, laughter, romance and death. This novel is the best of five novel written by an excellent author. This is an excellent read for the genre.....ER
I like Jesse Watson mysteries. Sometimes I get frustrated over her anxiety level, but the story line is good. The characters are interesting and I've read all of the Jesse Watson mysteries that have been put out on the freebie list. As a retiree, I seldom buy books. These are good enough that I would probably buy the paperbacks, so that's the best rating I can give them.
"Greene County Killer" written by Ann Mullen is a very entertaining read. Ann did an excellent job writing the story with many twists and turns, which keeps the reader guessing. The author described the characters good, both physically and mentally, with many of them related to the main characters, Jesse and her husband, Billy. The author truly has a remarkable imagination. It is definitely a lot of book for the money. I thank Ann for writing it. I recommend the book.
I enjoyed it. Once you get to know the Blackhawk family, you are hooked, but there were things that bothered me in Greene County Killer. Her portrayal of Jesse was not nearly as colorful. In this book, she is not so different from the protagonist in any female detective novel. In her previous book, we meet someone quirky, perhaps someone we could be. The story itself was great, pacing right on, but there was a lot of dialogue that didn't ring as true. Reaction to the death of a family member lacked dimension, and who would giggle when they were faced with the probability of a hostage situation in their home where their two children were? That scene would have been tense...it was awkward. Finally, I love that the author writes about her Native American family without hampering herself with a lot of cumbersome political correctness but if you are going to choose to write about a specific tribe, accuracy in history and tradition has a place. For instance, Cherokee Indians never lived in tee-pees. That was a shelter employed by the nomadic Plains Indians. A sense of National pride would keep that stuff authentic even while the other teasing and banter rings true. All in all, an exciting story. I just hope Mullen slows down and gives us more of her very best work.
